A label such as passport photo does not fully define a valid file. The receiving authority's canvas pixels, aspect ratio, head position, background, format and file-size limit determine the actual deliverable.
Do not rely on size names alone
The same informal size name can map to different pixel or file limits across systems. Confirm the use and authority first, then check width, height, background, head range and maximum KB instead of guessing from print dimensions.
Why passport, visa and enrollment specs differ
Documents use different rules for aspect ratio, face size and eye line. A square visa image and a portrait passport image are not interchangeable, while enrollment portals may also impose KB, DPI or background rules.
Upload, master single and print sheet are different files
A standard PNG is best for archive and editing, an upload-ready JPG targets portal dimensions and KB, and 6x4, 4x6 or A4 sheets target physical printing. Each selected spec needs its own single image, and print sheets group images of matching pixel size.
The safest selection method
Start with the receiving authority's current requirements, then choose the exact matching spec. For several portals, derive each result from one master rather than repeatedly compressing or manually stretching one output.
